11.2 The passe compose with Avoir

192-93
passe compose - events in the past -imperfect tense more in lecon 15

for most verbs to get passe compose version of it, you add a present tense from avoir (the auxilary verb)
so; avoir + past participle of the action/verbf

ex;
Nous avons fété

-ER verbs;

er -> é

j'ai parle
as parle
a parle

avons parle
avez parle
ont parle

To make it negative in the passe compose:
"We didn't do _____"

place the ne/n' and pas around the conjugated avoir form.

ex:
On n'a pas fete mon anniversaire
we didn't celebrate my birthday

To ask a Question with the inversion way:

invert the subject pronoun and the conjugate form of avoir
*does not apply to the other forms of questions formations

Avez-vous fete votre anniversaire?
form of avoir + subject pronoun
Did you celebrate your birthday?

Adverbs used often with the passes compose;

hier (yesterday)
avant-heir (the day before yesterday)

Adverbs;

deja
encore
bien (good)
mal (bad)
beacoup (alot)

are placed between the auxiliary verb or the pas and the past participle

ex:
Tu as deja mange ta part de gateau.
You already ate your piece of cake.

Elle n'a pas encore visite notre ville.
she hasn't vistied our town yet

*-er verbs in the present tense that have a spelling change do not have a spelling-change in the passe compose .. *s* because they all go to the e with the right slanted accent

-IR ending verbs, past participle of:

-ir -> -i

Irregular past participles:

apprendre > appris
avoir > eu
boire > bu
comprendre > compris
courir > couru
etre > ete (both ease with right slant accents)
faire > fait
pleuvoir > plu
prendre > pris
surprendre > spurpris

Passe compose of -'it was___' and 'there were___'

Il faut > il a fallu

ex;
Il a fallu passer par le supermarche.
It was necessary to stop by the supermarket

Il ya > il y a eu

ex:
Il y a eu deux fetes hier soir.
There were two parties last night.
